Microsoft Office

What is Ms-Office?

Microsoft Office is an office suite of applications, servers, and services developed by Microsoft. It was first announced by Bill Gates on 1 August 1988, at COMDEX in Las Vegas. Initially a marketing term for a bundled set of applications, the first version of Office contained Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Over the years, Office applications have grown substantially closer with shared features such as a common spell checker, OLE data integration and Visual Basic for Applications scripting language. Microsoft also positions Office as a development platform for line-of-business software under the Office Business Applications brand. On 10 July 2012, Softpedia reported that Office is used by over a billion people worldwide.


Microsoft Office Suite packages contain several types of software, including Access, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio and Word. There are several versions of Microsoft Office Suite, which offer components for users with various Internet systems as well as different types of computers. The packages of MS Office Suite are offered based on year, and have slightly different programs reflective of then-current technologies.

Functions of different programs from Ms-Office Suite

  • Ms Word - Is a word processing program . It is one among the anchor  applications in the office suite.It hosts  document creation tools that have been refined to be easy to use and comprehensive . Word can do a list of text  formatting and graphics.
  • Ms Excel - It is a spreadsheet program. It provides formulas and functions to calculate numerical data.
  • Ms Access - It is a database program which can certainly do the heavy lifting when it comes to managing detailed mountains of data such as customer, inventory, order lists that have hundreds or thousands of entries.
  • Ms Outlook - It handles your email messages, appointment scheduling, contact information and to do list. This program helps you to stay in the loop, organized and up to date with all the action in your work life.
  • Ms OneNote - It  serves as an electronic scrapbook for notes,  reference materials and files related to a particular activity or project.
  • Ms PowerPoint - It is a presentation graphic program which enables us to communicate information and its ideas on the screen slideshow or printed pages. Power point helps to divide info information into chunks that audience can easily absorb.
  • Ms Publisher - It helps to create publications which have greater emphasis on design than do word processing documents. Publisher includes attractive publications designs with place holders for text and images and other features such as decorative rules and background already in place.
  • Ms InfoPath: It enables you to design electronic fill in the forms  based on a template . Each time a user fills in the form, the unique user data is stored in a separate location called data source.
